Structural Plasticity
Structural plasticity is a term used to describe the ability of the brain to change, both in structure and in function, over time. It is thought to be responsible for the way that experience and learning shape the brain in adulthood. Its relevance lies in its potential to help explain how different skills and behaviors are acquired and how they can be maintained or changed. Structural plasticity also has implications for the treatment of brain disorders, such as dementia and stroke, as it suggests that the brain has the potential to be re-wired and improved.
