Nitric Oxide

Nitric oxide (NO) is a naturally occurring molecule that is important for cell signaling and plays a key role in many physiological and pathological processes. NO is a free radical that has an unpaired electron and is highly reactive, capable of readily diffusing across cellular membranes and binding to specific proteins. This makes it an important signaling molecule for cell-to-cell communication and for modulating various biological processes such as vascular smooth muscle contraction, immune modulation, and apoptosis. NO has been suggested to have beneficial roles in the heart, lungs, liver, and other organs, and it has been found to have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. NO also has potential applications in drug delivery, gene therapy, cancer treatment, and treatments for neurological and immune disorders.
