Cholera

Cholera is a severe intestinal infection caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. It is transmitted through contaminated food or water, and is most commonly found in areas with poor sanitation. Symptoms can include watery diarrhea, vomiting, and muscle cramps. The infection can lead to dehydration and even death if not treated quickly. Cholera is a major global public health problem and is especially prevalent in areas with inadequate water and sanitation systems. Early diagnosis and rapid rehydration are critical for reducing death rates from cholera. Worldwide vaccination efforts have also been effective in controlling its spread.
