Cryptosporiodiosis
Cryptosporidiosis is an infectious disease caused by the single-celled parasite Cryptosporidium. It can affect people of all ages and is the leading cause of waterborne illnesses in the United States. Symptoms of the disease include diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, fever, and dehydration. In some cases, it can cause more severe complications such as malnutrition and even death in cases of prolonged exposure. Treatment for Cryptosporidiosis is usually supportive, which means that the focus is on managing symptoms and preventing further spread of the infection. Prevention is also important, as people can spread the infection by contaminated drinking water, contact with infected animals or contact with contaminated surfaces. In order to reduce the risk of contracting Cryptosporidiosis, it is important to practice good hygiene, use safe water sources, thoroughly cook food, and avoid contact with animals that may be carriers of the parasite.
