Congenital Anomalies

Congenital anomalies refer to the medical conditions or malformations that occur in a fetus during pregnancy. These anomalies can affect different parts of the body including the reproductive system of women, specifically the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tube. One of the most common congenital anomalies affecting women's reproductive health is a septate uterus. It is a condition where the uterus is divided in two by a septum, which can lead to infertility, miscarriages or preterm labor. Another associated condition is bicornuate uterus, in which the uterus is heart-shaped, which can also lead to complications during pregnancy. Ovarian cysts are also a common anomaly that can occur during fetal development, which in some instances will grow larger and cause fertility complications. If left untreated, ovarian cysts can cause pelvic pain or rupture, resulting in serious health concerns. In addition, the fallopian tube can also be affected by congenital anomalies, such as a blocked or malformed tube, which can lead to infertility, ectopic pregnancy or other reproductive issues. To diagnose and treat these anomalies, women should undergo regular gynecological exams and screenings. In some cases, surgical intervention may be required to correct the anomaly or restore reproductive health. Overall, it is important for women to be aware of congenital anomalies and take an active role in their reproductive health to ensure early detection and treatment.
