Call for Papers
If the model is doing the work in your paper, this is the journal for it.
The Journal of Model Based Research welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers, engineers and multidisciplinary teams working with mathematical, computational, conceptual and physical models.

What the journal is looking for
Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year. There is no closing date to work toward, and a manuscript does not need to belong to a themed collection.
The journal is looking for work in which the model carries the contribution — where the advance lies in how a system is formulated, what the representation assumes, how it is fitted and evaluated, what uncertainty attaches to it, or what it licenses a reader to infer.
- Models built
- New formulations, representations and structures, analytical or computational, for systems in any field.
- Methods made explicit
- Formalization of how a class of studies should be specified, identified, fitted or reported.
- Models examined
- Evaluation, comparison, sensitivity and uncertainty work that says what a model can and will support.
- Models applied
- Studies putting an explicit model to work on a research question, with the inference stated plainly.
- Models in the physical world
- Scale and prototype models, model-driven engineering and model-based control.
- The field surveyed
- Reviews, syntheses, perspectives and commentaries on modeling practice and its direction.
What to expect
How a submission is handled
Review
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Decision
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Publication
Accepted articles are published open access under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license, with authors retaining copyright. An article processing charge is raised after acceptance on the terms published on the Article Processing Charges page.

Prepare the manuscript to the author instructions, then use whichever route suits you.
- Primary route
- ManuscriptZone — The journal's submission portal, which tracks a manuscript from submission through decision.
- Alternative route
- Simple manuscript submission form — A short web form that arrives already set to this journal.
- Assisted route
- [email protected] — Write to [email protected] and the editorial office will start the submission for you.
Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.
