Evidence put into routine practice
JIS serves implementation researchers, health services researchers, clinicians and allied health professionals, quality-improvement teams, public-health practitioners, policymakers and educators who work to close the gap between research evidence and everyday practice.
Implementation science studies the methods that help evidence-based practices, programs and policies reach the people and services they are meant for. JIS publishes research on that process: the barriers and facilitators that shape adoption, the strategies used to support it, the fidelity and adaptation of interventions in local contexts, and the sustainment, scale-up and de-implementation of practice over time.
The journal considers work from clinical care, including medicine, nursing and the allied health professions, from public health and health systems, and from related services such as social care and community programs. It welcomes quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods research from every region of the world. The Aims and Scope page describes the scope and study designs in full.

Manuscripts are handled by members of the journal's Editorial Board within their expertise, supported by the editorial office of Open Access Pub. The board advises on the journal's scope and policies, and the names and affiliations of its members are listed on the Editorial Board page.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. They are independent of the article processing charge and of any fee-relief inquiry. Editors with a conflict of interest are recused from handling the manuscript.
Peer review
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts. JIS follows the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the ICMJE Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals.
