Transferases
Transferases are a type of enzymes that catalyze the transfer of functional groups from one molecule to another. They are essential for maintaining metabolic processes in all forms of life, and mutations in these enzymes often lead to diseases. Transferases regulate a variety of biological processes including the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids. They play an important role in the synthesis of neurotransmitters, hormones, antibiotics, and other key molecules in the body. They are also used to produce medicines, including those used to treat cancer and other illnesses.
