Thermus
aquaticus Thermus aquaticus is a species of bacteria found in hot springs around the world. It is of great significance as it is the source of the enzyme Taq polymerase, which is used in the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. PCR is an incredibly valuable tool in the life sciences, especially in molecular biology and biotechnology, as it can be used to amplify and sequence nucleic acids, including DNA and RNA. PCR is used for a variety of purposes, such as for the identification of microorganisms, for the detection and diagnosis of diseases, for forensics, and for genetic engineering applications. Thus, Thermus aquaticus has made a major contribution to science and continues to be studied for its potential applications.
