Oxidoreductases

Oxidoreductases are a type of enzyme that catalyze (speed up) oxidation-reduction reactions, which are chemical reactions that involve the transfer of electrons. These enzymes play important roles in the metabolism of all organisms, allowing them to convert energy from one form to another, for example by breaking down sugars for energy production or for making complex biomolecules like proteins. Oxidoreductases are also used in biotechnology for controlling chemical reactions like the production of drugs, in industrial processes to increase efficiency, and in research to understand fundamental biological processes.
