Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a clinically used procedure that involves the transplantation of blood-forming stem cells, primarily from the bone marrow, to treat hematological diseases and cancer. By introducing healthy hematopoietic stem cells into the body, HSCT can help rebuild the patient's immune system, allowing them to live a healthy and normal life. HSCT is also used to treat a range of diseases, including blood cancers, pathologic disorders, and inborn errors of immunity. In addition, HSCT may be used in combination with gene therapy to help treat congenital diseases in newborns. As such, HSCT is an integral part of modern healthcare and a critical tool in the treatment of hematological diseases, cancers, and immunodeficiency disorders.
