Antioxidants in Respiratory Health
Antioxidants are substances found in many fruits and vegetables which help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are reactive molecules that can damage cells, causing oxidative stress and leading to respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), and emphysema. Antioxidants can help reduce the symptoms of these respiratory ailments by fighting off the harmful effects of free radicals and preventing oxidative stress. Studies have shown that antioxidants can reduce inflammation and improve lung function, reduce airway hyper-reactivity, and even reduce the risk of lung cancer. Antioxidants can be consumed through diet, as well as through supplements, and have been found to be highly beneficial for respiratory health.
