Antioxidant Activity Measurement
Antioxidants are molecules that can reduce the oxidation of other molecules, resulting in the inhibition of radical species formation. This process is essential for the maintenance of cellular homeostasis in living systems. Antioxidant activity measurement is a method used to determine the effectiveness of antioxidant substances, such as vitamins, enzymes, and other components found in dietary supplements, food, and pharmaceuticals. Measurement of antioxidant activity is important for the determination of their potential therapeutic value for the prevention and/or treatment of oxidative stress-related diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases. The most common antioxidant assay tests involve the use of chemical reagents and spectrophotometers or colorimetric assays.
