Overview

A parasite is an organism that lives in, on, or with another organism, called its host, and derives its sustenance from it. Parasites are highly specialized organisms that have coevolved with their hosts. They can cause serious illnesses, including malaria and gastrointestinal infections, and can affect animals, plants, and even humans. Parasitology is the scientific study of parasites and the diseases they cause, and the development of diagnostic tools and treatments for such diseases. Parasites play an important role in the health of ecosystems, and their interactions with other organisms give us a better understanding of the natural world.
