Mammalogy

Mammalogy is the scientific study of mammals, an ecologically and morphologically diverse group of animals. It encompasses the biology of all aspects of these animals, including anatomy, physiology, behavior, paleontology, evolution, ecology, population dynamics, genetics, systematics, and conservation. Mammalogy is a key component of the broader field of zoology, the study of all animals. The importance of the field is evident from its contributions to understanding the causes and effects of climate change, the function and evolution of ecosystems, the effect of human activities on wildlife, and the conservation of endangered species. Mammalogy is increasingly important for the management of wildlife, for preserving biodiversity, and for ecosystem health. Understanding the interconnections between mammals and their environment is essential for the development of sustainable management strategies for the conservation of species.
