Overview
Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) is a type of liver cancer. It usually affects middle-aged and older adults, and is the most common form of primary liver cancer. HCC is caused by a variety of risk factors including long-term hepatitis B and C virus infections, heavy alcohol consumption, smoking, obesity, and aflatoxins found in food. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial in the survival of patients with this disease, as advanced stage HCC is almost always fatal. Recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of HCC, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and targeted therapy, have improved the chances of survival for many patients.
