Perinatal Mental Health Disorders
Perinatal mental health disorders refer to mental health issues that occur during pregnancy or within the first year after childbirth. They include a range of conditions such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and bipolar disorder. It is important to recognize these conditions in order to ensure that women receive appropriate care during the perinatal period. Early diagnosis and intervention can help reduce further complications and improve the health of the mother and baby. These disorders can have a significant impact on maternal and infant development, relationships, functioning, and overall wellbeing. Perinatal mental health disorders can be effectively treated with a combination of professional counseling, therapy, and/or medication. Early recognition, diagnosis, and treatment are essential to improve maternal and infant outcomes.
