It can also significantly impair an individual’s ability to lead a productive and fulfilling life. Substance abuse is a significant public health issue and can have an effect on anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, or socioeconomic status. Treatment is highly individualized and typically involves a combination of psychotherapy, support groups, and medications. With treatment, it is possible to successfully manage and recover from substance abuse, and lead a healthier and happier life.
