Emergency Psychiatry

Emergency Psychiatry is a subspecialty of Psychiatry focused on providing emergency mental health services and stabilization to individuals during times of psychological distress, such as during a psychiatric crisis. Emergency Psychiatry services typically involve the diagnosis and treatment of short-term and immediate mental health needs. This can include providing psychiatric assessments and medications, crisis intervention and stabilization, referral to psychiatric care and community services, and discharge planning. Emergency Psychiatry is essential in addressing mental health needs in a timely manner to ensure the highest quality of care for individuals in crisis. It can help reduce the duration and severity of a crisis and the potential for recurrence, as well as help reduce the need for hospitalization. Emergency Psychiatry services are necessary for the safety, well-being, and stability of individuals in crisis.
