Bipolar Disorder in Women
Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that affects up to 6 million women in the United States. It is characterized by extreme changes in mood, ranging from high energy levels and reckless behavior to extreme lows of sadness, hopelessness, and lack of motivation. Women experiencing bipolar disorder may also have difficulty sleeping, increased irritability, and changes in appetite or weight. While there is no known cure for bipolar disorder, treatments such as medications and psychotherapy can help manage symptoms and reduce the risk of relapse. A woman’s risk of developing bipolar disorder increases if she has a family history of it, has had major life events, or is exposed to environmental stressors. With proper care and management, women with bipolar disorder can lead healthy and productive lives.
