Predation

Predation is an interaction between two organisms where one organism, the predator, feeds on another organism, the prey. Predation is an important part of the natural ecosystem, as it controls populations of species, promoting biodiversity, and improving species health and fitness. Predation has both direct and indirect impacts on organisms, such as the ability of the predator to influence the behavior and the physiology of the prey. Additionally, predation may also affect the distribution of species, by influencing the dispersal of species and the availability of resources. Predation is an important tool for conservation, as it can be used to manage species populations, restore native species, reduce impacts from invasive species, and protect vulnerable species.
