Volcanology

Volcanology is the scientific study of volcanoes, molten rock and associated phenomena such as seismic activity and ashfall. It includes the study of volcanoes on land and in the sea, both active and extinct. Volcanology has important implications for society, as it can inform us about potential hazards related to volcanic activity and can help us to better mitigate risk. It can also provide valuable insights into the Earth’s history and evolution. By studying volcanoes, we can learn more about how our planet works, where and how eruptions may occur, the potential impact of eruptions on the environment, and how to plan for and respond to volcanic activity.
