Marine Climatology

Marine climatology is a branch of climatology that studies the variations of climate within the oceans and coastal areas, including the impacts of these changes on coastal communities, ecosystems and marine life. It looks at the effects of both short and long-term climate variability on marine resources, such as fisheries, shipping routes, ocean beaches and recreational opportunities. By understanding the ocean’s climate and its relationship with the atmosphere, marine climatology can help us to better assess the impacts of climate change on our oceans and coastal areas. Recent advances in this field are providing new insight into the complexities of ocean climate and its associated impacts, helping us to better prepare for future climate changes and their impacts on these vital ecosystems.
