Hurricane Climatology

Hurricane climatology is the study of the long-term patterns and averages of hurricanes, including their formation, structure, lifetime, and intensity. This information is critical to better understanding how hurricanes form in different areas, how they move and change in strength, and how they impact areas vulnerable to storm surge, flooding, and wind damage. Additionally, hurricane climatology helps inform public safety policies and emergency responses in order to mitigate damaging effects of hurricane season. This knowledge is essential for communities around the world in order to protect lives and property from the often significant impacts of hurricanes.
