Ecosystems
An ecosystem is a dynamic and interconnected system of living organisms and their physical environment. Ecosystems are all around us, from ponds to forests to deserts. They are essential to sustaining life on Earth. They provide us with food, fuel, and other resources and regulate various carbon, water, and nutrient cycles that support life. Ecosystems can be large or small, and they can change over time due to natural or human-induced disturbances. Human activities can also affect ecosystems in both positive and negative ways, depending on how they are managed. For example, conserving natural habitats can help preserve biodiversity and provide clean air and water, while over-development and pollution can damage ecosystems and threaten the life they support. Understanding and managing ecosystems is therefore critical to the health of our environment.
