Overview

Global climate change is the long-term alteration of average climatic conditions across the planet due to human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and cutting down forests. This has a huge impact on human health, through increased exposure to extreme weather events, higher temperatures, and changes to air quality, food, and water sources. In addition, these changes can bring new health risks – such as spread of disease, or reduced access to healthcare – and exacerbate existing ones, such as air pollution. Through better understanding of climate change and its effects on human health, we can adapt our lives and healthcare systems to these changes, and minimize the damage caused to our population.
