t Cell Receptor
The T-cell receptor (TCR) is a protein found on the surface of T cells that recognizes and binds to foreign molecules, such as those from viruses and bacteria. The TCR helps T cells distinguish between self and non-self molecules, so that they can mount an appropriate immune response to protect the body from infection. The TCR is essential for proper functioning of the adaptive immune system and is therefore a target for developing treatments for immune-related disorders, such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, and allergies. TCRs can also be used to assess the effectiveness of immunotherapies and vaccines.
