Transdifferentiation
Transdifferentiation is the process by which a cell changes from one type of cell to another without passing through an intermediate stem cell stage. It can occur naturally in some organisms or be induced by external influences such as hormones and other chemicals. Transdifferentiation has a wide range of potential applications in regenerative medicine, cancer research, and tissue engineering. It could eventually be used to develop novel treatments for age-related diseases, cancer, and congenital disorders. By understanding the underlying principles behind transdifferentiation, scientists can work towards developing new treatments to combat the debilitating effects of a range of diseases.
