Myocardium

The myocardium is the muscular tissue that makes up the majority of the heart. It is mainly composed of cardiac muscle cells and is responsible for the contractions of the heart. This muscle is essential for maintaining healthy heart function, controlling blood flow and creating the necessary pressure to ensure a strong and regular heartbeat. Myocardial dysfunction can lead to a number of life-threatening conditions, including heart attack, ischemia and stroke. Its importance in the circulatory system is pivotal and it is essential that it is well maintained. To promote healthy myocardium, lifestyle changes such as regular exercise, a healthy diet and quitting smoking can be beneficial.
