Overview
Meningoencephalitis is an inflammation of the brain and the meninges, the tissue that covers the brain and spinal cord. This condition can be caused by a variety of infectious agents, including viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. Symptoms can range from fever, headache, stiff neck, confusion and seizures, to more serious neurological deficits, such as weakness and loss of sensation. Treatment of meningoencephalitis depends on the causative agent and may include antibiotics, antiviral agents or antifungal medications. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are essential for a successful outcome.
