Biomaterials

Biomaterials are materials designed to interact with biological systems and to perform a specific function in the body. They are used in a wide range of medical devices and implants, either as active components or as support structures. Biomaterials offer a number of advantages such as improved biocompatibility, enhanced device performance, and improved healing. They can also be used to maintain and repair living tissue, reduce infection risk, and improve medical diagnosis and treatment. Biomaterials are playing an increasingly important role in healthcare and the development of new medical treatments.
