Adrenalectomy
Adrenalectomy is a medical procedure in which one or both of the adrenal glands are surgically removed. The adrenal glands are responsible for producing various hormones that regulate various body processes. Therefore, adrenalectomy is an important medical procedure used to treat conditions such as Cushing's Syndrome, Adrenocortical Carcinoma, and Pheochromocytoma. By removing one or both of the adrenal glands, the body's hormonal balance is restored and symptoms of the conditions are significantly reduced or eliminated. Besides treating these medical disorders, adrenalectomy is also used to study the body’s hormonal system and can help provide insight into related illnesses or conditions. Its importance and benefits have not only made it a useful medical procedure but also a major area of research.
