Adipose Tissue
Adipose tissue, commonly known as body fat, is a type of loose connective tissue composed of adipocytes, cells specialised for the storage of lipids. Adipose tissue plays a fundamental role in regulating body temperature, influencing longevity and male fertility, and as an energy reserve for the body. It is located mainly in the subcutaneous layer of the skin and around internal organs. Adipose tissue is a major determinant of metabolic health, with obesity resulting from the accumulation of excess body fat.
