Thyroid Function
The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located in the front part of the neck. It is an endocrine gland, meaning it produces and secretes hormones. The primary function of the thyroid is to regulate the body’s metabolism by producing hormones such as thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones control and help regulate the body’s metabolism, heart rate, body temperature and weight. When the thyroid is functioning normally, it helps maintain overall health. However, when the thyroid is not functioning properly, it can cause a variety of symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, depression and even infertility. For this reason, it is important to get thyroid function tested regularly to ensure optimal health and well-being.
