Microbiology

Microbiology is the branch of science that studies organisms too small to be seen with the naked eye, such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Microbiology is important because it describes the ecology and physiology of organisms, as well as their effects on the environment, crops, and human and animal health. The knowledge gained from microbiology has been used to develop vaccines, antibiotics, and biotechnological products. Microbiology research has also enabled the development of food safety protocols, such as pasteurization, and medical treatments, like organ transplants and transplants of stem cells.
