Biomarkers
Biomarkers are biological molecules found in body fluids or tissue that can be used as indicators of normal biological processes, disease or exposure to a certain environment. They are important as they can be used to diagnose, monitor and screen diseases, measure risk, predict prognoses and guide therapies and treatments. For example, they can be used to measure cholesterol levels to predict heart disease, or to detect cancers and other diseases early on. They are used in the medical and scientific research fields, and are invaluable for personalised healthcare.
