Cold Injuries
Cold injuries are a type of tissue damage caused by exposure to extremely cold temperatures. They can range from mild frostbite, where only the outer layer of skin is affected, to severe cases, which can cause widespread damage to multiple organs. Cold injuries can be prevented by dressing warmly, staying dry, and avoiding cold environments. In cases of severe frostbite, immediate medical attention is needed to protect the affected area from further harm. Cold injuries are an important public health issue, as they can lead to considerable disability and even death, particularly in vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children and those with chronic illnesses.
