Overview
The gallbladder is a small organ located near the liver and is involved in the digestion of food. It stores bile, a digestive fluid produced by the liver, and releases it into the duodenum, the upper part of the small intestine, when needed. The gallbladder plays an important role in helping the body break down and absorb fats, essential vitamins, proteins, and minerals. It also helps to eliminate toxins from the body. Without a functioning gallbladder, digestion will be impaired and many nutrients may not be absorbed properly.
