Stenosis

Stenosis is a condition in which a body part (most commonly a artery or other blood vessel, airway, or spinal canal) narrows and restricts blood flow, air flow, or nerve transmission. It can be caused by disease, injury, or congenital defects. It is a serious condition since it can cause serious problems ranging from pain to organ damage. Treatment depends on the severity of the stenosis, but can include medication, lifestyle changes such as exercise and diet, and sometimes surgery. In some cases, interventional treatments such as balloon angioplasty or stenting can be used to open the narrowed blood vessel. Proper diagnosis and treatment of stenosis is important to help prevent further damage to the body.
