Overview

Sleep apnea syndrome is a medical disorder characterized by repeated pauses in breathing during sleep. It is a potentially serious condition, as it can lead to a variety of health problems, including high blood pressure, fatigue, cardiac arrhythmias and even sudden death. In addition, it can affect daily activities such as energy levels, memory, concentration and mood. Treatment may include lifestyle changes, use of an oral device, or in more severe cases, surgery. Making changes to lifestyle, such as avoiding alcohol and cigarettes before bed, losing weight and avoiding sleeping pills, can help manage the symptoms of sleep apnea syndrome and reduce its impact on daily life.
