Sleep Apnea Heart
Disease Sleep apnea is a serious medical condition that is linked to an increased risk of heart disease. It is characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep, which can last for up to 10 seconds at a time. The longer pauses in breathing can reduce the amount of oxygen that reaches the heart, increasing the risk of cardiac complications. People with sleep apnea often have difficulty sleeping, which can also lead to further health problems. Treatment for sleep apnea usually consists of lifestyle changes and using a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine at night. Making changes to sleeping habits and using a CPAP machine can help reduce the risk of heart disease and improve overall health.
