Apnea

Apnea is a term referring to the cessation of breathing for a short period of time. It can occur during sleep (sleep apnea) or during various other activities, most notably after a heart attack or stroke. Apnea is an important medical condition, as it can be associated with cardiovascular issues, cognitive impairment and even death. Treatment options vary, depending on the cause and may include lifestyle changes, medical devices, and in some cases, surgery. Improved understanding of apnea and its associated risks through research and public awareness can help to reduce its prevalence.
