Basal Cells
Basal cells are a type of cell found in the deepest layer of the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin. They act as stem cells and are important for the regeneration of the skin, as they are able to divide and form new epidermal cells when needed. Basal cells are also important for the production of proteins and lipids that form the barrier of the skin and protect it from the environment. Basal cells can be used to treat skin diseases, such as basal cell carcinoma, and can help to improve the appearance of scars and wrinkles. As they are able to regenerate, they are also useful in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
