Overview

Basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) are the most common form of skin cancer. They arise from the basal layer of the skin and often appear as small, raised bumps or patches on the skin. BCCs can be treated with topical medications, cryotherapy (freezing the tumor off), laser treatments, or surgery. BCCs have a high cure rate if detected and treated early, but can cause serious disfigurement or even death if left untreated. As such, it is important for people to regularly check for signs of skin cancer, including BCCs, and seek medical attention as soon as possible if any suspicious spots are found.
