Overview

The musculoskeletal system is the body's network of bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. It provides the structure and flexibility that enable us to move and function. Strong, healthy musculoskeletal tissues and bones are essential for our physical well-being, and particularly important for activities like walking, running and lifting. Damage to the musculoskeletal system can lead to pain, decreased mobility and disability. Exercise, nutrition and rest are essential components of a healthy musculoskeletal system. Medical treatments, such as physical therapy and medications, may also be necessary to treat musculoskeletal conditions.
