Overview
Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious and potentially life-threatening bacterial infection that affects the lungs and other organs. Early diagnosis and proper management of TB is important to ensure successful treatment and prevent its transmission. Currently, diagnosis of TB is mainly based on chest X-ray, sputum tests, blood tests, and skin tests. Treatment includes a combination of drugs that must be taken for several months to ensure the disease is completely eradicated. Treatment outcomes are monitored with regular follow-ups with the healthcare provider to ensure the medications are working adequately and to determine whether the patient has become non-infectious. To prevent transmission, TB patients should follow preventive measures such as proper hygiene, wearing a mask and avoiding close contact with others. Adequate diagnosis and management of TB can significantly reduce the spread of the disease and help people return to their regular lives as soon as possible.
