Respirometry

Respirometry is a scientific technique used to measure the rate of metabolism in living organisms. It is used to measure the rate of metabolism in an organism over time, as well as its response to changes in its environment. Respirometry is a key tool used in the fields of ecology, physiology and biochemistry to understand metabolic processes, such as respiration, by measuring oxygen consumption and/or carbon dioxide production. It is used to understand the effects of environmental changes, evaluate the metabolic performance of animals, and to study the metabolic capacity of a species or population. In addition, respirometry can be used to monitor the health of organisms and to measure the efficiency of energy use by a species or a population. The technique has implications for conservation efforts, allowing researchers to gain insight into the impact of environmental change on populations.
