Respiratory Medicine is the branch of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders that affect the lungs and other respiratory structures. The most common disorder in this specialty is respiratory failure, which is a decrease in respiratory function that can result from disease or injury. It is a life-threatening condition that requires immediate medical attention and can lead to compromised circulation, low oxygen levels, and decreased organ function. Respiratory failure can be treated with oxygen supplementation, ventilator support, and medications to reduce inflammation and improve function.
