Overview

Respiratory medicine is a specialty focused on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to the lungs, airways, and related structures. Environmental and occupational lung diseases, such as those caused by exposure to pollution, allergens, and hazardous substances in the workplace, are an important subset of respiratory conditions which require specialized knowledge and skills to treat. These diseases can cause breathing problems, inflammation, and other respiratory symptoms, and may have serious effects on overall health and well-being. Treatment and management of these diseases often involves control or reduction of environmental and occupational exposure to the triggering agents, along with medical therapies and lifestyle modifications as needed. Respiratory medicine environmental and occupational lung diseases are thus a vital part of providing comprehensive health care to those who have been exposed to environmental hazards or unhealthy occupational environments.
