Chronic Pulmonary Disease
Chronic pulmonary disease (CPD) is a term used to describe any long-term health condition that affects the lungs. This can include conditions such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma, and lung cancer. It is a major cause of disability and death, accounting for approximately one quarter of all deaths in the US annually. CPD also affects quality of life, as it impacts the ability to take part in normal physical and social activities. There are a number of treatments available to improve symptoms, however, the most effective way to manage CPD is through lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking, exercising regularly, and eating a healthy diet. Managing CPD can improve symptom control and reduce the risk of future complications.
